Last night was my friend’s first art show in a real gallery in downtown L.A. The show focused on the work of several local female artists. We had a great time looking around and chatting with the other artists. After, we went out for Mexican food and Margaritas!
I wore a great late 50’s – early 60’s red silk shirtwaist dress that I picked up at a thrift store for $30. Here are the pictures!
P.S. If you like her art, visit Angela’s site at http://lamiartiste.weebly.com/
I finally have some dresses listed in my Etsyshop! I’ve listed a gorgeous pink Jonathan Logan with the original tags still attached, another Jonathan Logan that is black with cute pink roses printed all over, and a beautiful silk dress in a watercolor inspired floral print. Here they are:

Like my new sunglasses? (And my cheesy webcam pic?) I had most of the day off today, so I treated myself to some vintage clothes shopping. I got these super cute glasses and a really pretty Asian inspired dress from the early ’40s – for only $40! I love finding great deals like that.
Ok so, I promised photos of the Cicada Club, but unfortunately my camera battery died before we got there! I did get this photo of my dress:
Those funny cream-colored shapes are ballerinas; my boss thought they were crabs! More pictures were taken by other folks, I’ll try to get my hands on some and post them here.
The Cicada club is housed in the historic Oviatt building in downtown Los Angeles. All the original Art Deco style architecture is still in place, and boy, is it amazing! The entrance alone is a formidable iron gate with nude ladies and greyhounds cavorting around it. The door is attended by a real doorman, and the old fashioned elevator is operated by a real elevator man, both complete with burgandy and gold uniforms, of course. If you’re ever in Los Angeles, I highly recommend an evening out at this vintage treasure! Check out their website for pictures and more info:
The highlight of our evening was seeing one of my favorite celebrities, Burlesque Queen Dita von Teese!!! As Husband and I were doing a nice little foxtrot around the crowded dance floor, we spotted her having dinner with her boyfriend. She looked beautiful, of course, and was wearing an adorable pink feathered hat. I dared Husband to ask her to dance, and she accepted! She was a good dancer, and a very gracious lady. I was too shy to ask her for a picture, but I’m kicking myself now! Oh well, maybe we’ll run into her again in the future.
I hope to go to the Cicada club again next week with friends instead of for a work event, and I’ll definitely make sure my camera is charged this time!
Until next time!
XOXO,
Lola Rose
Last night was our 3rd anniversary. Husband took me to a very nice restaurant in Pasadena called the Arroyo Chop House. Even though we had a reservation, the restaurant was quite busy so we enjoyed a cocktail at the bar for about ten minutes before being seated. When we got to our table, we found that they had left a bouquet of beautiful purple flowers and a lovely card! I know they do that for everyone celebrating a special occasion, but it was such a lovely personal touch and I was very impressed.
The food was delicious. Husband and I both had steaks, and he ordered his with garlic mashed potatoes, I ordered mine with the best mac and cheese ever! After dinner, we really splurged and ordered two desserts! The strawberry shortcake made a great breakfast the next morning 😉
As promised, here is the first ever outfit post:
The dress is black linen with a Bullocks of Los Angeles lable inside. The bodice has a wonderful arrow shaped detail at the neckline, but unfortunately none of the pictures show it. The pearls were a birthday gift from Husband a few years ago. I didn’t actually wear the fur stole to dinner, being that it was a very warm August evening here in L.A., but I think it looks great with the dress, don’t you?
And here is the obligatory pin-up pose, of course:
I love the way the light is reflecting off my wedding ring!
Tonight, we’re going to the historic Cicada Club in downtown L.A. with the ballroom studio. Stay tuned for pictures of the stunning Art Deco era Oviatt building, the authentic band and singers, and lots and lots of vintage fashion!!!!!!

Hi! Welcome to my new blog. I am an avid vintage enthusiast living in sunny southern California. I’m a recent graduate of the University of Redlands, with a degree in Vocal Performance. I work as a ballroom dance instructor in Pasadena, CA and I spend ALL my spare time and money researching and collecting vintage clothing, hats and accessories.
After realizing that, sadly, my 34 D’s aren’t going away, no matter how hard I try, I’ve decided to sell some of my vintage collection that no longer fits. I’ve opened an Etsy shop called The Atomic Bombshell Boutique.
In this blog, I plan to post pictures of my dresses for sale, pictures of my favorite outfits, spotlights on vintage designers, actors and models, spotlights on great vintage hang outs in L.A. and lots more! Stay tuned for more!
For tomorrow: the first ever outfit post! Tonight my husband is taking me out for a nice dinner for our third anniversary.
Xoxo,
Lola
